Description
The plaintext http://hyv.es API provides an easy way for third parties to get a short URL in an comfortable and straightforward way.
How does it work?
Have your application access an URL similar to the following, via an HTTP GET request: http://hyv.es/api/?url=http://www.hyves.nl/hyvesdesktop/download. (http://www.hyves.nl/hyvesdesktop/download is an example URL).
A regular, plaintext HTTP response containing the shortened URL will be returned. In this case the response header will contain "HTTP/1.1 200 OK".
If the URL was incorrect, an empty response and "HTTP/1.1 400 Bad request" will returned, or "HTTP/1.1 503 Service unavailable" if there was any problem that prevented this.

We will shorten url's up to 2.000 characters in length.
How long will shortened URLs be?
20 characters, including the beginning http://
How long does a shortened url exist?
Forever, of course when it does not follow the website's terms of use or it's related to technical issues beyond our control it could become unavailable.
