The GadgetGallery is our showcase of the most interesting gadgets according to Hyves. In the gallery we show the gadgets we think will have great added value for the hyvers, we show the gadgets we think they really should see.

The gadgetgallery is an editorial item. This means that every request for placement will be checked on a couple of objective features, but will also be evaluated subjectively. It is our editorial office that will decide if the application will be placed in the gallery.

How can I apply for the GadgetGallery?

Only a person who is involved in the creation process of the gadget is allowed to apply for the gadgetgallery. This is to make sure that if we place the gadget in the Gallery, we have the right contact person, the right gallery information and also know who we need to contact if something goes wrong with the gadget.

Please read the Important do’s and dont’s carefully before applying for the gallery.

Important do's and dont's

Note that this list is not limited to the points below. These points are guidelines, not rules. Even if the gadget should comply with all the rules, we still reserve the right to refuse a gadget for the GadgetGallery.

The GadgetGallery is an editorial item, which means that there will always be a part subjectivity in the evaluation of the gadget and the decision to place it in the gallery or not.

• The gadget needs comply with the points mentioned in the gadget requirements and the gadget policy.
• The gadget needs to be complete and working. Applications for gadgets that are half finished or that have links that are not clickable will not be accepted in the gallery.
• An interactive aspect is preferred. Hyves is a social community, therefore social interaction is very important to us. Examples of social interaction are gadgets in which you compete against other Hyvers and which show the scores of you and your friends on Hyves in rankings, gadgets in which you can tip items to show your friends, etc.
• The gadget needs to add value for the Hyver, and not just for the maker of the gadget. The Hyver is our #1 priority. The gadgets in our gallery are placed there because we think they add value to the Hyver experience on Hyves. We do not add gadgets in the Gallery that are focused primarily on adding traffic to an external site.
• In principal, gadgets need to be interesting for all Hyvers. So gadgets that are only interesting for Ajax supporters, residents of Amsterdam, visitors of a specific club, 18+, etc. are not allowed.
• Gadgets in Dutch and English are allowed. If the gadget is in English it should be easy to understand for Hyvers that don't speak English or not that well.
• The gadgets in the gallery need to have a contact address on the canvas-view, so that if Hyvers have questions about the gadget, they can contact someone responsible for the gadget. This may also be an internet address where the contact info can be found.
• We do not place gadgets in the Gallery that show information about a specific artist, or specific band.
• Spam is a no go. This also includes that a gadget that has the option to send messages or invites to members that are not your friends and do not have the gadget are not allowed. Also the option to send more messages than to 10 people at a time, is not allowed.
• The gadget needs to be supported for at least two months. Some campaign only last a couple of weeks and after that the gadget is no longer supported. Also, if the gadget is no longer supported, it should say so in the gadget for at least two weeks before the gadget is not supported anymore.
• If the gadget is placed in the gallery, the developer is obligated to let us know when he is planning to change things in the gadget. We need to know this before the change is made.

More in general we want to say: When making a gadget please keep in mind that if the value for the Hyver the main driver of the gadget, this gadget will be installed by a lot more Hyvers than if the main interest of the gadget is generating traffic to your own site. If you want your gadget to be a success on Hyves, is has to be something that is interesting or fun for the Hyvers.

Important: for any gadgets that are in the gallery that also have a sales campaign on Hyves, exceptions or additions on these rules could be possible.
